Thank you for visiting my humble little page! I'm William. I was born on the east coast of Australia, but I currently reside in Tokyo. I have lived in Japan for a total of 8 years, during which time I have worked in various fields as either an employee or on a freelance basis. I'm very passionate about the Japanese language, and as well as teaching and working in Japanese I also devote a lot of my free time to studying the Japanese language. When I'm not working, you'll find me at the beach or at cafes
From zero to holding basic conversations
The Japanese Language Proficiency Test can be a very daunting challenge. As an N1 holder, I know exactly what it takes to not only pass but to really nail it!
Repetition exercises to help with basic Japanese listening
Complete a diary in Japanese to practice discussing various topics
Lessons to improve reading comprehension through blogs, manga and brochures
In this Udemy course, students will complete over 350 practice questions covering content from past N5 exams, as well as fundamental Japanese vocabulary that appears in N4/N3 exams.
In this course, students will learn about the fundamentals of Japanese kanji. Focusing on the 214 radicals used in Japanese kanji, this course uses real-life examples to help students contextualise what they learn
All lessons are conducted via Zoom. Once you have made a reservation online, you will received a confirmation email with a link inside it. Come lesson time, all you have to do is click on the link to join the lesson
All lessons are 55 minutes but can be made shorter at the student's request. For instance, young learners or those who are particularly busy tend to prefer 50 minutes
Single lessons are ¥2,400 ($15.60) and double lessons are ¥3200 ($20.80)
Lesson payments are done via an online credit card form managed by Stripe. You do not need a Stripe account to make payments, and to date I haven't had any significant issues with payments
Stripe may not allow cards from certain countries to be processed. In this case, please contact me via email at williamfranklinaujpn@gmail.com and I will do what I can to help. I do offer lessons on other platforms in cases like this, but it's a last resort
If you know you won't be able to attend your lesson more than an hour before the start time, no worries! You can reschedule your lesson via the 'Change/Cancel Appointment' button in your confirmation email. If you need to cancel the lesson within one hour of the starting time, this will incur the whole lesson fee and no makeup lesson will be offered. You don't need to contact me before rescheduling your lessons. In fact, I prefer that you don't, as I'm extremely busy and I have lots of emails to reply to all the time :)
No. I value my time and I expect the same from my students. While my policy is a little strict, the fact is I'm managing my own reservation system and doing everything for these lessons by myself and I simply don't have time to do lots of backwards and forwards emailing to reserve makeup lessons etc
No problem at all! I know that life gets busy and we can't always make time for things like language study. We can do revision during the lesson to compensate. I'm a very patient person and it's absolutely fine to not study between lessons :)
Wlliam sensei is near-native Japanese. He's very easy going, encouraging and patient. Always on time and articulates his lessons observing the student's strengths and weak spots.
William is a patient and dedicated teacher with a profound knowledge of Japanese. William creates classes with engaging and customised content for each lesson. As a complete beginner, William has quickly taught myself and my partner a lot of useful vocabulary and grammar in easy to understand classes. William also will go on to explain in a good depth any questions that may arise during the learning process. Amazing teacher!
William is a fantastic tutor. He has a structured and straightforward approach to meeting your needs, strengths, and weaknesses. If you’re serious about learning and willing to put in the work, I would highly recommend William. I essentially started from zero and am now in a place where I’m more confident, and the dots are connecting.
